Important Information for Foreign Visitors
Effective January 12, 2009, all foreign travelers will be required to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the united States under the Visa Waiver Program. More information can be found on the Department of Homeland Security website.

Taxis from SFO Airport to San Francisco
Taxis depart from the designated taxi zones located at the roadway center islands, on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals.
Uniformed taxi coordinators are stationed at the taxi zones from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. to assist passengers with questions or concerns.
Ramp accessible taxis are available. Please contact the taxi coordinator to request a ramp accessible taxi, or phone *1191 from any airport courtesy phone.
Taxi drivers are required by airport regulation to accept fares to all Bay Area destinations.
Approximate fares to San Francisco:

- Downtown – $37
- Fisherman’s Wharf – $44
Metered rates apply to all destinations. A $2.00 exit surcharge is included in all San Francisco taxicab meter fares for rides originating from San Francisco International Airport. By sharing a ride, up to 5 persons can ride for the price of 1 person.

Public Transit from SFO Airport to San Francisco

BART operates rapid rail service directly between SFO and San Francisco. The SFO BART Station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal (Boarding Area G side). BART is easily accessed from any terminal by riding SFO’s AirTrain to the Garage G/BART Station stop.
Caltrain Commuter Rail

Caltrain Commuter Rail provides service between San Francisco and Gilroy. BART connects SFO to the Caltrain rail system at the Millbrae Station. Weekday express trains operate between Millbrae and San Francisco during commute hours.
SamTrans Public Bus Service

SamTrans operates San Mateo County’s public bus service. SamTrans buses serve SFO 24-hours every day. Bus routes KX, 292, and 397 stop at SFO’s terminals. Routes 292 and 397 also stop at SFO’s Rental Car Center and the United Airlines Maintenance Center. Route 397 operates overnight between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
At the terminals, SamTrans buses stop at:
Terminal 2: Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level, roadway center island
Terminal 3: Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level, curbside adjacent to Courtyard 4
International Terminal: Level 1 at Courtyard A and curbside adjacent to Courtyard G
