The Klein-Vogelbach-Prize is in its 5th year and it has been awarded to outstanding scientists for their work published in prestigious journals.  As you will see from the list of award-winners so far authors from the field of neurosciences in the widest sense won the price (10.000 Swiss Francs). Nevertheless we want to encourage also scientists from orthopaedic and rehabilitation sciences to submit their work. If you or your institution is not working on the research of movement we would welcome your support and kindly ask you to forward this information to colleagues from relevant fields.

Aims and Scope:
The "Susanne Klein-Vogelbach-Prize for the Research of Human Movement" is awarded to researchers in neuroscience, orthopedics and anatomy whose work is oriented to a better understanding of the underlying principles of human movement and its rehabilitation. Movement in this context is not restricted to locomotion, rather it covers all kinds of muscular-induced human movement including mime and music.

Authors who have published a scientific paper in this area within the last two years or whose paper has been accepted for publication are entitled to submit their application. Papers in English or German will be preferred. References from a third party are not required.

Excluded are papers which have already been submitted for a prize.

The prize is endowed with 10.000 CHF (Swiss Francs).

FULL-TIME NEUROIMAGING RESEARCH POSITION FOR PHYSICIANS (Faculty Position)

The National Institute of Mental Health, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), offers immediate full-time research position for physicians with extensive imaging experience at the 300 acre NIH campus which houses state-of-the-art MRI, PET, MEG dedicated to research.  The strong scientific environment and outstanding equipment resources at NIH make this a unique opportunity for an outstanding physician/scientist. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team using neuroimaging to map brain activity and genetic/neurochemical mechanisms of normal higher cognitive function as well as dysfunction in neuropsychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia, those with genetic sources of cognitive dysfunction such as Williams syndrome, and others such as normal aging.  In addition to collaborative work within the team, the incumbent will carry out his or her own research. Familiarity with computational/statistical methods for neuroimaging (e.g. Unix, C/C++, MatLab?, SPM, AFNI) are an advantage but not absolutely required. Behavioral Neurologist/ Cognitive Neuroscientist (Faculty Position)

Our Centre for Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience has an established patient panel for neuropsychology research and laboratories for fMRI, ERP and TMS.. Our strengths in clinical neuroscience and neuropsychology are supported by NHS services in brain injury and stroke rehabilitation. In the UK’s most recent national assessments we achieved the highest possible research rating (5A on a scale of 1-5) and the highest possible rating for Teaching Quality (“Excellent”). We a clinician/scientist with interests in clinical neuroscience, brain imaging or neuropsychology, and who will contribute to our neuropsychology research programme through a close working relationship with the National Health Service.

A 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Life-Span Cognitive Neuroscience is open at the Institute of Gerontology, Wayne State University, Detroit. The research topics include: longitudinal and cross-sectional research on structural and functional brain aging and adult cognitive
development, sex hormones in cognitive aging, neuroanatomical and cognitive effects of hypertension, age-related differences in spatial
cognition. Two research dedicated magnets (4T and 1.5T) are available for structural and functional imaging. Renovated research space and computational facilities are available for cognitive and neuropsychological studies. Post-doctoral Position :  University of Pennsylvania (Postdoctoral Position)
Motor cognition, Department of Neurology & Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, University of Pennsylvania

Applications are being accepted for a post-doctoral position working on motor cognition and the body schema. Investigations will include behavioral studies of patients with brain lesions, TMS (single pulse and repetitive) as well as fMRI; the fellow will also be involved in  activities of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania.  Experience with lesion-based cognitive neuroscience or imaging/TMS is desirable. The position is funded by NIH research grant and is available starting December, 2004.

LINKING COGNITION, BRAIN AND GENE: EVIDENCE FROM GENETIC DISORDERS

Post doctoral research scientist opening at the Laboratory for Cognitive Neuroscience at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Our
collaborative team of researchers is investigating genetically based disorders such as Williams and Down syndrome, in an NIH  multi-disciplinary multi-site program project which forges links between domains of cognition, brain structure,brain function, and molecular genetics. The position involves working with a team of researchers in the design, analysis and write-up of neurocognitive research, and the integration of cognitive data with the neural and genetic projects. Position also involves overseeing and maintaining the project database using FileMaker Pro software; supervising research assistants, graduate and undergraduate students; as well as providing feedback to participants and their families. The National Institute of Mental Health, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), offers a two to five year post-doctoral fellowship at one of the premier research sites in the U.S., the 300 acre Bethesda campus of the NIH, near Washington D.C. which houses state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities (MRI, PET and MEG) dedicated to research. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team using neuroimaging to map brain activity and genetic/neurochemical mechanisms of normal higher cognitive function as well as dysfunction in neuropsychiatric illnesses such as

The Hoglund Brain Imaging Center (HBIC) offers four post-doctoral opportunities studying the neural underpinnings and treatment of central nervous system disorders and injury using neuroimaging.  The succesful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group with interests spanning traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, aging, obesity, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders.  Post-doctoral fellows will assist in building active research programs.

The HBIC is a stand-alone facility within the Medical Center.  Imaging modalities include Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Spectroscopy (3T human and 9.4T animal) and Magnetoencephalography (151 channel cortical and 83 channel fetal) systems. Excellent collaborative research opportunities exist with mentoring available from neuroimaging scientists, neuroscientists, psychologists, physicians, and statisticians.

Candidates should have a medical or a doctoral degree in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or social/behavioral sciences with a strong
interest in neuroimaging and the human condition.
